I took almost a year and a half off from running. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I knew I’d have back issues so I stopped and walked the dogs a lot. Then after Olivia arrived and I was feeling more comfortable being a mom (and the god awful heat and smoke of the summer settled), I tried to run with her only to have my milk supply plummet so I stopped.
Finally in March, I decided I needed to take control of my health again and pick running back up. Olivia was relying less on my milk anyway.
OH MY GOD. Running is hard and it’s even harder to get back into. We had a rough spring too. Pretty wet and cold. I don’t mind running in those elements honestly but I couldn’t run with a baby doing it.
I learned to accept to run our tiny court that is .13 mi in length in loops while Olivia napped. Man that sucked but you learn to deal with what you got right?
Fast forward to today. Spokane is experiencing a 100dg heat week well when you’re desperate, you run early right? I’m not meant for early runs–especially with nothing in the system. But hey, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right? Plus, Olivia has been a trooper. Just gotta turn her fan on and she’s happy camper.
Hopefully my legs will get back to where they once were. It’s a hope anyway.
