$christmas = ‘stressful’; $newyears = ‘sucks’;

Yea, yea. You'd have to be a programmer to get the title of this blog, but I think most people would get it. I should have posted awhile ago, but the holidays got in the way. For those who don't know me: I hate shopping. Absolutely hate it. It's even worse for me who gets double duty on my mom because my dad doesn't shop. So I shop for him (to make her happy). Luckily this year, dad backed me up. Kim Kardashian Gingerbread man!! Kim Kardashian Gingerbread man!! The little festivities leading up to the holidays weren't bad really. Had 3 parties-one per a weekend-leading up to the holiday. While boyfriend worked during every one of them, I found dates (girlfriend dates) for each of them. And then one weekend, my mom, grandma, and I baked for about 9 hours. We did puppy chow (not for the dogs) and sugar cookies. Now if you don't know my family, our family is perverted. Annnnd they rubbed off on me. ...just a little bit. Sooooo while frosting the cookies (this was after 8 pretty continuous hours of baking), mom and I started to lose it and starting doing our own versions of Christmas classics. Annnnd they weren't PG rated. I think we corrupted my grams. Not that she wasn't already corrupted, but yea. It was funny. Mom drew a couple of naughty things on cookies (my dad ate them). I drew boobies on a Gingerbread man Pikachu cookie! Pikachu cookie! who had really wide hips. I dubbed him Kim Kardashian. My dad said he nearly came up stairs because he thought someone was dying while mom and I were singing. RUDE! Hahah! Ohhh and I hand made a Pikachu cookie! After I decorated him though, mom said it looked like he had boobies so I ate him pretty quickly as well. It looked a lot better before he got baked anyway.

PHP Dates

PHP can be fickle at times. Especially with dates. I ran into a situation at work where I needed to figure out the end of the next payperiod and if that that date was on a week day, figure out…

Zipping up a file & adding a password

Hey all! I've been wanting to share this tip for awhile. It's going to be short though. Ever wanted to make a file a little more secure by adding a password? It's easy to do on a LINUX server. All it takes is one line of code.

You’re Not You: Film & Novel Review

Hey everyone! Hope you survived your Thanksgiving and didn't get trampled on while doing some Black Friday shopping...and enjoyed the Seahawks vs 49ers if you're into that (I was reading...more on that). I just got back not too long ago doing some shopping with my sister and mom. I didn't get to run yesterday as planned, but as I've discovered over the years of being with my boyfriend, family plans change...usually last minute and last minute was 10:30pm the night before. Oh well. I'm really really glad we got to be with his family the morning of because boyfriend worked that night (along with my papa). I spent the night with my mom and papa (who had to sprint off to work). Day well spent. Even the warmest Turkey day in 130 years. Crraazzzy! I'm just glad we didn't get 6 ft of snow like Buffalo, NY did! So anywho, as I mentioned, I was reading during the big game. I only had 10% of my book left and I wanted to finish it darn it! The book was called "You're Not You" and is by Michelle Wildgen. I started reading the book after I saw the trailer that featured Hilary Swank and thought I'd give the book a shot and then watch the movie online. For those who aren't up to date with your movie trailers or haven't heard of the book, you can find it easily on wiki or youTube. To give a general plot, the story follows Bec (played by Emmy Rossum) who because a caregiver for Kate (Hilary Swank) who has Lou Gehrig (ALS) disease. Josh Duhamel plays Evan, Kate's husband. The story follows how the two gals get along and, as wiki puts it, brings out the best in each other.

PHPWord

I know, I know. I've been absolutely terrible about updating. My running days have been rough. I'm nursing a knee injury that I'd rather take care of and not have come back. I managed to knock off 12 minutes off my 10K PR though in a race about a month ago! I was very excited about that. Anywho, this post is not about running. It's about something I learned at work. I have been developing an application that spits out a filled Word document. Not only that, I had a template I wanted to use as well. What to do? Enter PHPWord. It's a PHP class that allows you to create brand new Word documents, use a template, add images. All this without having to open Microsoft Word. The zip file from Github has a gazillion examples. The issue I was having was trying to add an image to the template. I ran into this StackOverflow form post. If you add the code they provide to the Template.php, this gives you the ability to replace an image placeholder in the document. They even give you this code bit on how to use it:

Fall Running

Ahhh fall. Fall comes as a relief for most runners. No more getting up at dawn to get in your long runs on the weekend. Usually anyway. I don't mind fall really. The only things I don't like about fall are shorter days and the fact that winter is right on it's heels. I am not a winter person. I like running in the fall. All but one thing: the bugs come out in numbers.

PHP Image Resizing on the fly

Hey everyone! For the life of me, I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I started a new job! I'm a week and a half into it and really enjoying it. It's a little different than what I was doing before. I was more Front End Developer. Now I'm much more Back End. Getting my hands dirty with OOP PHP and mySQL. It's been really tough, but I am stepping up to the challenge. The company is very supportive and much (much) bigger. I'm surrounded with a bunch of other geeks (aka developers).

Portland Marathon Recap

I meant to post the recap earlier, but after Portland, I was pooped. My body recovered pretty fast, but I was just tired. Plus I started my new job Wednesday. ...and my boyfriend is being grumpy and moody which sets off my mood. *sighs* So it's been fun. To sum it up, it's done. We conquered. We didn't do it without some bumps though. The day or so leading up to the race was kind of uneventful. My dad and my sister's husband had fun with happy hour a couple of nights but that was it really. I kept a close eye on the forecast. Unlike last time I did Portland, the day was supposed to be hot. And I mean HOT. I was more concerned for my sister and a friend of my sister's. They don't care for the heat so much. I don't usually mind it too much. It was supposed to be 81 dg. Turns out that I should have been concerned but it wasn't for my sister. The heat affected me the most.

Countdown to Portland & other things….

Well this is it. Portland MarathonThe countdown is clicking! We leave for Portland tomorrow. As we are getting close, even I'm getting a little nervous. Not for me, but for my sister. Unlike last time for me and Portland, the weather is anticipated to be sunny and warm with a high of 81. Whhhiicchhh is making me a weeee bit nervous. I'm only hoping that it being 81 in October is a little bit different than it being 81 in say July. Ohh lordy.

Marathon Weeks 9 – 11

I know. I know. I have been absolutely horrible at updating the last few weeks. I'll be honest, the last runs were not as exciting as I felt they should be. Plus I've been busy. Busy up the ying yang. As of today though, long distance training is complete and I think it's about time for Tink to go into running hibernation (again) after Portland. She's pooped. She might have pulled something in her foot. I want to sleep in (I'm used to running every week so the running weekly hasn't gotten to me like it has her). Lastly, I miss my boyfriend (him and I have opposite work schedules so the weekends seem to be the only days I get to see him). Alright. Here's the recap.

Marathon Week 8 Recap!

Today concluded week 8 of training! :) After last week's run, Tink was not looking forward to this week. Not.At.All. She was very much dreading it. Being the good sister I am, I got her out the door. Without having to drag her actually. This run definitely helped heal her bruised ego. We knocked off 10 minutes off our previous 16 mile run which felt strong for both of us previously (I thought it was 20 at first but that was going off memory--whoops). Today was another new route. I winged it and came to within .5 of the 16 we had to do so we ran around the block again. I'm getting pretty good on judging distances. While running, just assume the worst and expect that what you think is a mile is more like .5 of a mile. It's worked so far.

Check your variable names….

...and actually read the stinkin' error code while you're at it! If you haven't noticed by now, I am blonde. Yep! Guilty as charged. It also doesn't help that I've always had this bad habit of skimming. Yes. I know about it. No, I'm not great at fixing this issue. I've done it forever.
