Welcome, Olivia

UPDATE: I’ve had this post in draft since ehhhhh May 2021 but life took an insane busy turn and it never got finished.

So as you guys know, I was pregnant and due June 1st. I knew in the back of my mind that we wouldn’t make it to June 1st. I was thinking May.

Yea… we didn’t make it to May.

Here’s the timelines of events.

April 19th. We had a weekly gyno ultrasound update in the morning. They didn’t like what they were seeing and gave Shea and I 2 hours to go home and pack a bag and get to the hospital. I was strapped with heart-rate monitors for baby that kept having to be adjusted. I couldn’t leave too far from the bed. They watched her like crazy.

April 21st. My own health started to deteriorate. I developed preeclampsia and my blood pressure sky rocketed. They kept having to increase my meds.

April 26th. Fast forward to the following Monday at another ultrasound apt, they made the decision to schedule the C section because my health wasn’t improving. Baby was just fine.

April 27th at 8:15am, Olivia was born at just a hair over 3 lbs. Super duper tiny she was but healthy! She spent nearly a month in the NICU however because of her size. She came home with us in late May.

During her weeks in the NICU, I got released and readmitted a couple of times because my preeclampsia wasn’t going away. It took about 10 weeks to finally get passed it. Lots of meds and scary times.

Fast forward to today. I’ll admit I started this post a long time ago and then got busy. We are now over 6 months with Olivia. We battled colic, reflux, soy allergy and her sassy butt. It’s been a rough ride but really she’s pretty funny and now happy. I think we are passed the colic. Reflux is still here and there. We are slowly hitting teething though. Olivia was .1% for about 4 months. Hit .2% in month 4 and then finally just hit 1%. She’s building mom’s upper body.

The dogs are probably never going to recover. I don’t know what happened to Roxie but she’s been a royal PITA since Olivia has been home. Kai is fine. Olivia LOVES the dogs though.

Fast forward to Feb, It’s amazing how much she’s changed over the months. It took about 5 months before the colic went away and we could switch her to a soy formula. The biggest change for me is when she started sleeping in her own room. I could finally take showers again. That was big. She got her first 2 teeth middle of January. Solids is a struggle but we are doing it. Her reflux isn’t as bad but it’s still there.

Being a mom is hard and always dynamic but she’s made things interesting. One day I’ll feel like I’ll get a handle on this. For now, I’m just trying to keep her learning and growing.
