COVID Christmas 2020

Facebook pregnancy announcement

For once, I was prepared with plans for both major end of year holidays at an early time.

Thanksgiving was kind of spent a little scared with COVID. That was the first time we had get togethers (small in comparison to years previously) with both families back-to-back. The week after Thanksgiving is when shit hit the fan. The prison where my husband works got hit HARD with COVID. He started working 16 hour shifts 4 out of 5 days a week. I only saw him in bed and minutes before he’d go to work for the next shift. If I didn’t work remotely, I never would have seen him. I was pretty worried for him.

It only took 2 weeks before COVID hit our household. He woke up Sunday with a quickly disappearing sense of both taste and smell. He tested positive the next day. We spoke earlier that week that we should probably cancel Christmas with the families because of the spread out in the prison. And as that stood, I’d be spending Christmas alone with the girls. With him testing positive when he did, he got to stay at home with me. Yay silver lining! Then Christmas Eve, I tested positive with COVID after one failed earlier test.

Shea came down with mild to medium symptoms. There were a couple scary nights where I thought the virus would get his lungs but he managed to pull out of it. I felt fine and then it hit me Christmas night with major sinus pressure. Sleeping in the spare bedroom wasn’t helping me either. I think the hardest part about this is me being pregnant so I can’t take any of the good sinus pressure drugs that I’m used to.

So yea, I’m just under 18 weeks pregnant. I’m due June 1st and trying to plan anything while this is all going on has been not fun. But we’re getting through it. Roxie’s being gentle and needy. Kai’s indifferent.

So needless to say, Christmas was totally different this year and definitely not what I planned. But we are both gonna survive COVID. And we both got jobs still. And both Roxie and Kai are both really silly. Baby will survive it too.

That’s all I could ask for.

I will leave you with this picture of Roxie wearing a Godiva chocolate bow.
