Summer updates + Running recap

I know. I'm an absolute failure at keeping this blog up to date. I have a couple reasons as to why. Well more like three. 1.) San Diego went no where the way I wanted it to. 2.) Work went super crazy. 3.) May have had added another member to our crazy household. She (was) tiny. Furry and bloody crazy with energy.

Bloomsday Weekend + Marathon recap

I know, I know. I've been quiet. Honestly, I've just been so blah about life, busy, and just plain tired. I'm in week 14 of 18 of marathon training. In all honesty, the training has been going well. I mean I'm not super fast, but the training has been more enjoyable. Why? Cuz most of it has not been done alone. I've been running with other runners. One gal, my neighbor, has ENDLESS energy. I don't know where she gets it from. She can easily just whip out 13 miles with no training. She's amazing. She helps push me in the later miles where I usually struggle. She doesn't take it hard when I cuss her out for pushing me up hill.

Running update and a SURPRISE

I feel like most of my updates lately have been about work. I apologize about that. It's definitely been a rough few months, but it's lightened up. I also feel like I haven't been posting about running. Honestly, I feel like there hasn't been much to post about. I've done a lot of training. I live on a hill. Anytime I run, it's straight up hill. FUN TIMES. Not.

A Runner’s Review of the Apple Watch

As I wait in queue for a Live Chat session on Fandago and kind of failing getting into this Valentine's Day movie and trying not to get sucked into Hana Kimi (again), I decided I at least start this blog. It's a topic that I've been meaning to blog about for awhile: What's better for a runner? A Garmin or the Apple Watch? Dun dun duuuuunnn.

Running Memories

Over the years, I've done a gazillion races. From 5Ks, to a gazillion half marathons, to marathons. My first race as a runner was a 10K trail run in 2009. In 2010, I completed my first half marathon in Coeur d' Alene. After that, I was addicted to that distance. It became my favorite distance. It still is really. The following year, in 2011, my sister started to race. Like me, her first race was a trail run. She started out at a 5K and then later on that year, we did our first half in Seattle together. In October of that year, I completed my first full in Portland alone. Two years later (and my sister's wedding), my sister and I (along with a friend) completed the Portland Marathon. It was my second one and my sister's and our friend's first. My sister and I spent the summer weekends training and running across the city. Sometime within those years, I did complete a couple of duathalons.

SF Marathon 2015 Training Update

Yes. I should have wrote this ages ago. Yes. I have been busy. To be fair, I started a post, finished it and then WordPress kicked me out and didn't save my draft. TT_TT I wasn't happen and gave up re-writing it. To sum up my training: well I'm still at it. That's good right? I've done 3 races so far. Two halfs and one 12K. Two by myself and one with Tink. Bloomsday, Coeur d'Alene, Windemere. And what happened? I PR'ed at the ones I did alone (Bloomsday & Coeur d'Alene). They were only each by mere minutes, BUT it was a PR.

Holy batman! I got published in Runner’s World!

I appeared in an article last Monday in Runner's World. I was super excited. It showed my transformation and how running has changed me in a positive way. I felt like a super star for a day, but it was awesome. Thhheeennn the next day I got sick and went into hibernation for about a week. Took me a week and a half to get back into running after that. Biking helped keep me in shape after that. I spent most of the time watching Detective Conan episodes.

Portland Marathon Recap

I meant to post the recap earlier, but after Portland, I was pooped. My body recovered pretty fast, but I was just tired. Plus I started my new job Wednesday. ...and my boyfriend is being grumpy and moody which sets off my mood. *sighs* So it's been fun. To sum it up, it's done. We conquered. We didn't do it without some bumps though. The day or so leading up to the race was kind of uneventful. My dad and my sister's husband had fun with happy hour a couple of nights but that was it really. I kept a close eye on the forecast. Unlike last time I did Portland, the day was supposed to be hot. And I mean HOT. I was more concerned for my sister and a friend of my sister's. They don't care for the heat so much. I don't usually mind it too much. It was supposed to be 81 dg. Turns out that I should have been concerned but it wasn't for my sister. The heat affected me the most.

Marathon Weeks 9 – 11

I know. I know. I have been absolutely horrible at updating the last few weeks. I'll be honest, the last runs were not as exciting as I felt they should be. Plus I've been busy. Busy up the ying yang. As of today though, long distance training is complete and I think it's about time for Tink to go into running hibernation (again) after Portland. She's pooped. She might have pulled something in her foot. I want to sleep in (I'm used to running every week so the running weekly hasn't gotten to me like it has her). Lastly, I miss my boyfriend (him and I have opposite work schedules so the weekends seem to be the only days I get to see him). Alright. Here's the recap.

Marathon Week 8 Recap!

Today concluded week 8 of training! :) After last week's run, Tink was not looking forward to this week. Not.At.All. She was very much dreading it. Being the good sister I am, I got her out the door. Without having to drag her actually. This run definitely helped heal her bruised ego. We knocked off 10 minutes off our previous 16 mile run which felt strong for both of us previously (I thought it was 20 at first but that was going off memory--whoops). Today was another new route. I winged it and came to within .5 of the 16 we had to do so we ran around the block again. I'm getting pretty good on judging distances. While running, just assume the worst and expect that what you think is a mile is more like .5 of a mile. It's worked so far.
